ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
In elementary school, students will learn Math, Chinese, English, Thematic Studies,Chinese culture,Art,Drama,Music,and PE. Homeroom time is dedicated to developing social and emotional skills as well as the IB Learner Profile in students.
Assessments are both formative and summative. Summative assessments at the end of each quarter are conducted for all academic subjects courses except in Visual Art,Music,Drama and Physical Education. Subject teachers adopt assessment strategies that are varied and challenging. Each class offers unique knowledge and builds a set of distinctive skills that will enhance the learning experience of the student.
Teachers in elementary school use a variety of assessment strategies, projects, quiz, written test, presentations, and homework in the grading criteria. Teachers use rubrics, checklists, written tests as part of the assessment tool.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
Middle & High School
FDIS holds two semesters of instruction each year, from September to June, for a total of around 180 school days. Most classes are taught in blocks; two 40-minute periods are joined into a larger two-period block.
The school integrates international, English-medium curricula throughout its grade levels. Full IB Diploma Program and IB certificates/courses are offered. All courses (except certain Chinese, Spanish courses) are taught in English.
